Fine Arts Conservation Lab undertook a significant task: restoring a vandalized mural in Hollywood, CA that has adorned a freeway underpass since 1988.
The impressive Blue Moon Trilogy mural, created in 1988, stands as a commemoration of the progress made in AIDS research during a tumultuous time for the gay communities. This emotionally evocative artwork, crafted by artist Russell Charlton, who tragically succumbed to HIV, has now become an iconic and deeply meaningful historical piece.
Over the years, the city has faced challenges in preserving the mural's integrity due to recurring acts of vandalism. However, with the assistance of MuralGuard, Fine Arts Conservation Lab successfully eradicated graffiti from the entirety of the Blue Moon Trilogy. The underpass experiences continuous traffic, but MuralGuard is up to the challenge, safeguarding the mural from the daily accumulation of dirt, soot, and exposure to natural elements.
