The Yurok Tribe Veterans Cemetery in Klamath, California, needed a comprehensive solution to protect its split-faced blocks from water damage and vandalism. To address this, contractor Golden State Plumbing applied a three-part system: Micro-Seal, VandlGuard Five, and VandlGuard Finish Coat. Together, these products created a durable, protective barrier for the cemetery’s structures.
Step 1: Micro-Seal
Micro-Seal is the first layer of this system, as the water-based silane/siloxane repellent absorbs into the surface, forming a breathable barrier that prevents water intrusion while allowing moisture to escape. It protects against efflorescence, mold, mildew, and freeze-thaw damage, ensuring the blocks remain structurally sound and visually appealing.
The application of Micro-Seal as the first step is crucial because it creates a breathable, water-repellent barrier. Applying VandlGuard Five directly to untreated masonry could trap existing moisture, potentially leading to damage over time. VandlGuard Five would also need a second coat to be applied in order to properly adhere to the surface. By using Micro-Seal first, the blocks are sealed and prepared, providing an optimal base for VandlGuard Five to adhere effectively with just a single coat. This ensures that the anti-graffiti coating performs at its best, offering maximum durability and protection for the cemetery’s structures.
Step 2: VandlGuard Five
Next, VandlGuard Five was used to provide anti-graffiti protection. This non-sacrificial coating creates a tough, clear, and UV-stable barrier that prevents graffiti from bonding to the surface. Its easy-to-clean properties allow for graffiti removal without damaging the underlying surface, making it a reliable solution for public spaces.
Step 3: VandlGuard Finish Coat
To complete the system, VandlGuard Finish Coat was applied as a top layer. This water-based emulsion adds an extra layer of durability while maintaining the clear, non-yellowing finish of the underlying coatings. It enhances the protection provided by VandlGuard Five, ensuring the cemetery remains graffiti-free and easy to maintain.
By using this system, the Yurok Tribe Veterans Cemetery has safeguarded its buildings against environmental wear and vandalism, preserving their appearance and integrity for years to come. This project showcases the effectiveness of RainguardPro’s products in delivering comprehensive, long-lasting protection for community spaces.
